In his 2007 book, “River of Deception” (published by Trafford Publishing), which is getting a revived and updated marketing campaign in late 2013, William F. Thomas pens the story of a conman looking for a mark to fleece who takes a trip up the Mississippi River. Henry Belk, alias Henry Scott, was a handsome scoundrel who made his way in life by fleecing rich women. In “River of Deception”, Henry decided that a Mississippi River vacation on a river boat would be the perfect location to find his next victim. Always prepared to cover any and every possible situation he might find himself in while on a job, he never planned on this one – meeting and falling for the beautiful Paula Murphy, a women set on her own agenda. An excerpt from “River of Deception”: “She dangled the card key to her cabin in front of his face. She giggled as he reached for it, eagerly, like a schoolboy in love. The giggles were partly from just enough drink to put her in a mellow mood and probably just a touch of her own passion. Henry leaned forward again, urgently kissing her neck, then her nose and finally her ruby lips, all the while he was frantically trying to place the card in the lock and open the door. He swore softly, almost inaudibly, under his breath, as he fumbled with the card key. Paula, couldn’t help it, she giggled again, letting her southern accent show as she drawled, ‘why Mr. Scott, I declare.’” “Nothing in life is certain, and things are not always as they seem,” says Thomas.
