His Highness Dr Shaikh Sultan Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, signed a copy of the English translation of his latest acclaimed book in Arabic titled Sirat Al Madina.
The English title of the book is Tale of a City.
The signing took place during a ceremony at the White Hall in the Convention Place in London, in the presence of Shaikha Budour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Founder and CEO of Kalimat Group.
Dr Shaikh Sultan announced that he is about to release his new title, ‘Sharjah Between Protection and Colonialism’, during the upcoming edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair. In this book, Dr. Shaikh Sultan continues to chronicle the most important historical events that followed those highlighted in the ‘Tale of a City’, which ended with a chapter narrating the British government’s submission to the demands of the resistance. This led to the signing of an agreement on the establishment of the Sharjah Air Station for commercial purposes without any official British representation.
‘Tale of a City’ chronicles the gripping history of Sharjah with a rich sprinkling of stories and anecdotes that make history come alive for both historians and non-historians alike
Speaking about his book ‘Sharjah Between Protection and Colonialism’, Dr Shaikh Sultan said that his new title will reveal whether the British committed to the agreement or not. The book also includes the narration of certain events during which many civilians lost their lives.
Dr Shaikh Sultan underlined that all his books are historically related, with one book completing the other. In his book ‘The Conflict Between Power and Trade in the Gulf’, Dr. Shaikh Sultan depicts local disputes over trade in the Gulf and the affairs of the European East India Companies. While in his book ‘Under the Flag of Occupation’, Dr Shaikh Sultan chronicled Sharjah’s history under the British rule where he highlighted the East India Company.
Dr Shaikh Sultan’s books document the historical events in the Gulf region spanning the Portuguese, Dutch, French and British involvements
