Hekayty ma’ al ikhwan (My story with the Brotherhood)by Intisar Abdel-Monem, Cairo: General Egyptian Book Organization, 2011 In this new release by the General Egyptian Book Organisation (GEBO), Intisar Abdel-Monem tells her own experience when she was recruited to join the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), offering a deep reading on many details of one of the most important political currents today. According to the press release issued by GEBO, the book presented different critical reviews of the ideas Abdel-Monem believed at the time, and the gap between truth and opportunism; between the teachings of Islam and the Brotherhood’s reading of it. The author, according to the statement, was biased in favour of logic logic, and she left the MB fully knowing that she may be subject of defamation and accusations of treason and other abuses. The book includes nine sections covering the topics of women in Islam and women in the Brotherhood, the structure of society from the Brotherhood’s viewpoint, the structure of a Brotherhood family and any number of topics from the question of the woman’s role in society, the veil and Islamic upbringing to politics, education and the elections.
