After completing her first two books that detail the life journey of Myra, readers urged author Shirley Proctor Twiss that there is still a lot more for the novel’s protagonist to accomplish. Twiss agreed and wrote “From Myra to Laura” (published by Xlibris), the continuation of the ‘to whom much is given, much is asked’ ideology and theme.
In this third installment that details the later life of Myra — a woman, wife and mother who survived the Great Depression, World War II and the death of her beloved husband —readers will follow her and her family as they deal with unexpected trials. As a widow, Myra will be hurled into the turbulent decades of the fifties, sixties and seventies. Just as she becomes comfortable and familiar with her new life, the world she has known faces drastic changes; changes she must face and accept.
The story then transitions from the prominence of Myra to the emergence of her granddaughter, Laura, who continues their matriarch’s legacy. Even though she leads a different life style, readers will recognize how Laura emulates her grandmother who never lacked optimism and courage in facing the ever changing world.
Although fictional, this story lets readers see that times may have changed, but people still search for the same things in life — love, justice and peace. “From Myra to Laura” shows the gem in every woman of faith and optimism who never lets change break her.
