Canada's 2014 Toronto International Film Festival is to open with a screening of director David Dobkin's The Judge, starring Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall, organizers announced Friday.
Co-starring Vera Farmiga, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jeremy Strong, Dax Shepard and Billy Bob Thornton, the movie will be shown at the festival Sept. 4.
It is about a successful lawyer who returns to his small hometown in Indiana after his father, a judge, is accused of murder.
"The stars aligned and we are thrilled to announce that we will kick off the festival with The Judge," Piers Handling, the festival's director and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "David Dobkin has delivered a moving, textured story about family, duty and the way we remember our past. We couldn't have asked for a better start to this year's event."
The Judge is set for theatrical release in the United States in October.
