Latest geospatial technologies and services equipment were on display at the Oman Geospatial Forum 2017 which opened at the Oman Convention Exhibition Centre on Monday.
Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, opened the Forum being held under the theme “The Role of Geospatial Data in Promoting Economic Development.”
Dr. Al Sunaidy toured the exhibition accompanying the forum, which included the participation of a number of governmental and private institutions from inside and outside the Sultanate. He was briefed on the latest technologies and modern equipment in the field of geospatial technologies and services.
After that, a number of scientific papers were presented, and a number of technical and applied discussion sessions were held.
The workshops were attended by a number of specialised speakers in the field of spatial geography, regionally and internationally.
The Minister of Commerce and Industry, said: “The Oman Spatial Geography Forum is of particular importance as it seeks to participate in economic development under the integration of various services, adding that the Supreme Council for Planning has approved one map for the Sultanate, and what we saw today of modern technologies by the participants is very important.”
Commodore Ahmed bin Saif Al Badi, Head of the National Survey Authority at the Ministry of Defence, said: “We hope through this forum to spread the culture of spatial geography in the Sultanate and to make it available to all users from governmental and private institutions.”
