Egyptian flautist Ines Abdel Dayem and marimba player Nesma Abdel Aziz will perform on Wednesday 21 January at Sharjah's Al Qasba Theatre in the UAE.
The performance is Egypt's contribution to this year's Sharjah World Music Festival.
Taking place between 16 and 25 January at several venues across Sharjah -- Al Majaz Amphitheatre, Masrah Al Qasba Theatre, Al Majaz Waterfront, Heart of Sharjah and The Flag Island – the festival will include appearances by world-renowned musicians.
Ines Abdel Dayem is an Egyptian flute player, with a long CV of artistic accomplishments inside the country and internationally. She became the director of the Cairo Symphony Orchestra in 2003, dean of the Cairo Conservatoire in 2005 and soon after vice-president of the Academy of Arts. In 2011 she was appointed chairperson of the Cairo Opera House, a post that she still holds. She continues however to play extensively in Egypt and internationally.
Egyptian marimba player Nesma Abdel Aziz is one of the most prominent musicians of her generation. The beginnings of her career are linked to Omar Khairat when she performed in his ensemble. She soon moved on to perform with her own ensemble, fusing Western with Oriental repertoires.
This year's Sharjah World Music Festival will also see participation of other renowned artists such as Kadim Al-Sahir from Iraq, Syrian Female Oriental Ban, Lina Shamamian from Syria, Omaima Al-Khalil from Lebanon, Canella Trio with musicians from Bulgaria, Cuba and Argentina, among others.
