The Chinese Embassy in Cairo announced Monday the winners of a competition to design a unique logo for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Chinese-Egyptian diplomatic relations.
In a press release, the embassy said that Marwan Ibrahim has been awarded first prize, worth 20,000 Egyptian pounds (about 2,252 U.S. dollars), for his logo which combined the Egyptian Great Pyramids and China's Great Wall in a comfortable harmony with the colors of the two nations' flags.
The embassy also named two winners in the second place who won a prize of 10,000 pounds (1,126 U.S. dollars) each.
Five contenders won the third place worth 3,000 pounds (338 U.S. dollars) each, and 10 designers won fourth place, getting 1,000 pounds (113 U.S. dollars) each.
Two special incentive prizes went for a 75-year-old man and four siblings for their participation in the competition with their beautiful, simple logos.
Most of the logos are creative, unique and simple, expressing the strong, unshakable friendship and comprehensive strategic relations between the two countries.
The contest was open for all Egyptians, both individuals or groups, and the designs were subjected to both the Chinese and the Egyptian laws, while the competition rules are only determined by the Chinese embassy.
Meanwhile, the embassy expressed its gratitude for all competitors for strengthening the Egyptian-Chinese ties through their participation in the logo design contest.
The competition is part of the 2016 China-Egypt Culture Year jointly launched by Egypt and China to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.
Egypt was the first Arab and African state to have established diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China in 1965.
