Embassy of India hosted enthusiastic celebrations of ITEC Day at its premises on 21 March, 2017. The event was attended by nearly 80 ITEC alumni representing diverse sectors/organizations, including Lebanese Parliament; Internal Security; General Security; various Ministries of Government of Lebanon, Audit and Defence Forces.
Ambassador Afif Ayyub, Head of International Organizations, Conferences & Cultural Relations Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Emigrants of Lebanon was the Chief Guest. A number of other officials and media representatives were also present.
The programme included opening remarks by HE Sanjiv Arora, Ambassador of India to Lebanon, screening of a documentary film entitled "ITEC @ 50 the Golden Years", remarks by HE Ambassador Afif Ayyub, a special dance performance by students attending Bollywood Dance classes at the Embassy, and dinner. A few ITEC alumni also took the floor and shared their experiences during their training in India in highly positive terms.
Ambassador Sanjiv Arora underlined that the long standing ITEC Programme, started in 1964, was an important dimension of India's partnership with other developing countries. He described the ITEC alumni in Lebanon as permanent ambassadors of the historically strong friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between India and Lebanon.
Ambassador Afif Ayyub thanked the Government of India for providing many Lebanese government employees with the opportunity to gain the necessary technical and administrative skills that will allow them to implement it in the course of their duties at various government departments.
