The 181th Munich Oktoberfest, the world's largest beer festival, has attracted 6.3 million visitors worldwide, the Munich official organizer announced here on Sunday.
Compared to last year, there are 100,000 visitors less this year. They have drunk 6.5 million liters of beer, 0.2 million liters less than 2013. Another 112 oxen and 48 calves have been consumed.
Although most figures fell, the organizer is satisfied. The Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter described this year's Oktoberfest, from September 20 to October 5, as "relaxed and it brings again lots of fun."
In addition, 112,000 beer mugs have been reported to be stolen from different beer tents. The number was 81,000 in 2013, which means more visitors are interested in the traditional beer mugs with Bavarian characteristics and plan to take the souvenirs with them.
In the lost and found office, altogether 3646 things have been found. Among them there are 900 identity cards, 530 wallets and 230 eyeglasses.
The history of Oktoberfest could date back to 1810, when Bavarian Prince Ludwig married Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. Since then, people celebrated the anniversary of their marriage in midst of the Theresienwiese, which was named after Princess Therese.
