1968 Ferrari 365/250GT sells for £253,000 Oxford - Arabstoday For the second year in a row a Ferrari was the top-selling lot at the Bonhams March sale of Collectors’ Motor Cars and Automobilia in Oxford, UK. Leading the way in the £1.2 million sale on Saturday was a 1968 Ferrari 365/250GT SWB re-creation that sold above its top estimate at £253,500. Other top lots included a 1939 BMW 328-style Roadster at £135,900, a 1965 Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Berlinetta ‘Series 1’ at £85,500 and a 1927 example of one of the first Morris Oxfords with coach-built bodywork, which realised £23,000 in the same month the model celebrates its centenary. A single-owner collection of Canadian-built Buick motor cars, including one that was used by a future King of England, sold for a combined total of £108,615. Top price in the collection was the £59,740 achieved for the 1928 model year McLaughlin-Buick 496 Tourer that was one of only two built and used on the royal tour of Canada in 1927 by the then Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), his younger brother Prince George (later the Duke of Kent) and their entourage. Meanwhile a restoration-ready 1959 Morris Mini Saloon that was the 529th produced and is one of the oldest surviving examples of its type sold for £6,900. In the automobilia section the top selling lot was a collection of post-War European Grand Prix race programmes that sold for 20 times its highest pre-sale estimate at £4,000. Tim Schofield, Director of the Bonhams UK Motor Car Department, said: "Once again the Ferrari marque led the way at our annual spring Oxford sale – this year with both the 365/250GT SWB re-creation and a 330GT 2+2 Berlinetta among the top-selling lots. "The £1.2 million auction total shows the strong interest in this ever-popular sale, which was the perfect start to the department’s UK auction calendar."
