Townhouse Gallery will be presenting concentrated workshops on the technical aspects of producing art exhibitions and other cultural events. The workshops target aspiring technicians, curators and artists, and aim to teach participants the skills needed to establish and maintain different kinds of cultural venues - from the fundamentals of art handling, to lighting and sound design, installing new media, exhibition design, exhibiting work in non-traditional venues, and project management skills like time management and planning budgets - relying on both theoretical and practical approaches. In addition to practical workshops, the programme also includes lectures on production processes and organisational techniques, and participants will get the chance to visit different artistic venues and cultural spaces across Cairo, learning how to deal with artists, curators, gallerists and all kinds of cultural workers. The programme is managed by technical manager Saad Samir, who has over a decade of experience managing cultural events and exhibitions in Egypt and abroad, and is held with support from the British Council. Workshops will be given by leading figures across the arts and culture field, who will share their own stories and experiences with participants. The deadline to apply is Tuesday 5 November.
