The 17th National Book Fair opened on Monday in Oran with the participation of more than 100 publishing houses and will continue until January 24.
The president of the National Union of Book Publishers, the organizing body of the event, stressed that the main objective of the fair is to give an opportunity for local publishers, particularly those of the new generation to present their productions and exchange experiences with professionals.
Organized under the slogan, "The book, challenge of the future ", the fair aims to bring closer the book and readers, especially with the continuing problems of distribution, said Ahmed Madi.
Special attention is given to new publishers in this fair, which coincides with the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious war of national liberation.
Publishers from Algiers and Blida said that such cultural events help them evaluate the book market, meet professionals and make self-criticism.
During this event, conferences on the Algerian novel will be given by Professors Mohamed Daoud, Bouyedjra Bachir, Mohamed Meflah and novelist Rachid Boudjedra.
