Morocco will be the guest of honour at the 48th Cairo international book fair, to be held on Jan. 26 through Feb. 10, chairman of the General Egyptian Book Organisation Haitham El-Hajj Ali said.
The celebration of Moroccan culture is not limited only to the book fair as it is celebrated throughout the year in Egypt, he told MAP, noting that Egypt and Morocco have historical cultural ties.
In this regard, the Egyptian official recalled exchange of visits between Moroccan intellectuals, thinkers and creators and their Egyptian counterparts.
This edition will feature the participation of the Moroccan main publishing houses, governmental bodies and academic and research institutions.
Two stands of 220 square meters will be set up during this event, one for exhibition and another for publishers.
A documentary will also be screened to highlight the diversity and richness of the Moroccan literary production.
This edition “person of the year” is the poet Salah Abd Essabour, El-Hajj Ali said.
36 countries from the Arab world, Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America will take part in this 48th edition, he pointed out.
The Cairo international book fair, which was founded in 1969, is the oldest and most extensive book fair in the Arab world.
