German Culture Week in Shanghai starts tonight with a concert by the 12 cellists of Berlin Philharmonic.Directed by Simon Rattle, the orchestra will perform Ravel's "Alborada del Gracioso," Bruckner's "Symphony No. 9 in D Minor" and Hosokavwa's "Concerto for Horn and Orchestra-Moment of Blossoming."German Culture Week is part of the 13th China Shanghai International Arts Festival and will continue until November 19.The cellists will perform at Shanghai Grand Theater while the Mannheim String Quartet will give a concert tonight at Shanghai Concert Hall. The quartet is expected to present works by famous composers such as Haydn, Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven.The week's programs have been carefully selected, according to Wolfgang Rohr, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Shanghai.Rohr said he hopes the culture week will help boost cultural exchanges between the people of China and Germany.
