A memorial lecture for Edward Said will be held on 1 November at the old campus of the American University in Cairo. The lecture titled 'Edward Said and Humanities' is to commemorate the late author on his birthday and will be hosted by AUC's Department of English and Comparative Literature. Speaking at the lecture is Michael Wood, professor of English and Comparative Literature at Princeton University. Wood was a longtime colleague and friend of Edward Said. He edited and introduced Said's Music and Literature against the Grain, and is author of Literature and the Taste of Knowledge. Edward Wadie Said was a Palestinian-American academic and activist whose most famous work,Orientalism, was extremely influential. Said died in 2003 after a long battle against Leukemia.
