This year archaeologists will forego celebrating Archaeologists Day as it coincides with the anniversary of the January 2011 revolution. Mohamed Ibrahim, minister of state for antiquities, decided to cancel the celebration ceremony this year for the sake of the feelings of the families of the revolution's martyrs. Ibrahim also called on archaeologists to work hard to protect Egypt’s heritage. The minister also asked archaeologists to halt protests aimed to meet personal demands and promised to meet all financial and administrative demands as soon as the number of tourists to Egypt increases and the industry returns to normal. Tourism is the main financial source for the ministry.
