As 7 June marks the anniversary of the death of revolutionary singer El-Sheikh Imam, events are being held to celebrate his memory. The Saad Zaghloul Cultural Centre in Cairo and the Al-Kabina Cultural Centre in Alexandria are holding celebrations on the anniversary of revolutionary singer El-Sheikh Imam's death on 7 June. The Saad Zaghloul evening will include musical performances, while the celebration at Al-Kabina Cultural Centre will involve storytelling about the late singer's life. Singer and oud player El-Sheikh Imam and poet Ahmed Fouad Negm were revolutionary icons in the sixties and seventies, having been imprisoned many times due to their political stance. El-Sheikh Imam passed away on in 1995, leaving behind a plethora of songs, some of which were revived in Tahrir Square during the January 25 Revolution. The concert in Saad Zaghloul Cultural Centre, located in 2 Saad Zaghloul Street in El-Sayyeda Zeinab, Cairo, will start at 7.30pm. Performance at Al-Kabina Cultural Centre in Alexandria, located in 11 San Saba Street, behind Cinema Rialto, Mahatet Raml, will start at 8pm.
