Algerian poet Somaya Mehnesh told Arab Today that she released her collection of poems Maskat Raesy (my birthplace) as it discussed the many themes of her childhood, love, lament and the land where she was born. The poems were all written between 2007 and 2012, and the title of the collection is inspired by a poem addressing the dreams, wishes and feelings of childhood. The collection is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Algerian independence, and to the spirit of her grandmother, “Algeria for me is life” said the poet, “even after death.” The book is published by Banks and Difference Publishing House in Beirut, and includes 20 poems over 90 pages. Dr Aballah El Eshy praised the collection calling it “a new experience in Algerian literature.”
