There is a range of reasons why the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition is always a welcome fixture on the capital's calendar, commented a UAE English-language daily.
"These include its celebration of our traditional skills of falconry and hunting, through to the event's indication that camping season is about to return after a long hot summer," The National said in an editorial on Thursday.
As UAE life becomes increasingly urban and complicated, we all need to remind ourselves of the attractions of getting away from it all. Sheikh Zayed was always aware of the benefits of the desert. He is reputed to have said that a stay in the dunes refreshed him and made the complex task of managing and modernising the country less exhausting.
"Our own work burdens are likely to be rather easier than his, but the point remains valid today. With the organisers expecting a record turnout for the 13th instalment of the four-day event, it seems many others also find solace in the traditional activities and the simpler life celebrated at ADIHEX," concluded the Abu Dhabi-based daily.
