S. Korea's nuclear envoy to have talks with U.S. official in Vienna

South Korea's top nuclear negotiator will meet with his new U.S. counterpart during a two-day visit to Austria starting next Monday, the foreign ministry said Thursday. During the Vienna trip, Lim Sung-nam will meet with Glyn Davies, who recently replaced Stephen Bosworth as United States Special Representative for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), according to the ministry. In their first meeting, the two officials are expected to discuss the joint strategy on the DPRK's nuclear program following two rounds of rare denuclearization talks between the DPRK and the United States. The recent talks, which U.S. officials had described as "positive", were aimed at resuming six-nation negotiations to end Pyongyang's nuclear program. The DPRK recently expressed its wish to return to the talks, stalled since 2008, but South Korea and the United States are demanding the DPRK abandon its uranium enrichment program and allow inspectors to verify the disarmament process. Lim is also seeking to hold a trilateral meeting next week on the sidelines of the East Asia Summit in Bali, Indonesia, with his Japanese counterpart Sugiyama Shinsuke and U.S. Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Kurt Campbell over Pyongyang's nuclear program, according to the ministry.
