Irrigation Minister Hossam Moghazi on Saturday said his ministry is taking part in the celebration of the new Suez Canal opening by a project to transfer the Nile water to Sinai.
The Nile water will be provided to irrigate 100,000 feddans in Sinai, the minister said in statements.
The project's urgent phase has already been completed by establishing the new Suez Canal siphon as an extension of the old Sarabium siphon at a cost of EGP 175 million.
Moghazi said his ministry extended four huge pipelines under the canal, describing the mega siphon as the largest water project beneath the new Suez Canal.
It aims to provide irrigation water from Sinai canal and secure its transfer beneath the new Suez Canal lane to farmers in east of Suez, New Ismailia city and the lakes area, he added.
Egypt will inaugurate the New Suez Canal on August 6 in the presence of presidents, kings and high-level delegations from various countries.
The new canal will massively increase the capacity of the existing canal and offer an important opportunity to boost the country's economy.
