6.1-magnitude quake hits off Papua New Guinea on the Richter scale

An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale jolted 131 km off Arawa, Papua New Guinea on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The epicenter, with a depth of 157.1 km, was initially determined to be at 5.66 degrees south latitude and 154.48 degrees east longitude.
There is no word yet on damage or injuries.
Quakes are common for the island nation that lies on the 4,000-kilometre-long Pacific Australia plate, which forms part of the "Ring of Fire," a hotspot for seismic activity due to friction between tectonic plates.
