As many as 20 fire engines rushed to control a massive fire that broke out on Saturday in a number of commercial shops in Souq el Gomaa (the Friday Market) in El Sayeda Aisha, said the assistant interior minister and head of the directorate of civil protection.
In exclusive statements to MENA, Major General Magdy el Shalqani said that firefighters are continuing efforts to control the fire.
The owners of the shops are storing their goods in an unsafe way, he added.
