Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb described Sunday's attack on El Boutroseya Church, which left 23 persons dead and 49 others injured, as "the most heinous crime against safe worshippers."
Delivering a speech before the Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament, currently in session in Abu Dhabi, Tayyeb said that this attack does not harm only Christians, it also harms Muslims across the globe.
The summit addresses "modern policies" that insist on tampering with the unity of nations and peoples and dismantling the stable countries and turning them into hotbeds of tension, Tayyeb said.
The summit brings together 50 women speakers of parliament and the UN secretary general as well as 100 prominent world figures.
The two-day summit, is considered the biggest gathering of women parliament speakers.
The event, organized by the UAE Federal National Council (Parliament) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, is the first of its kind to be held in the Middle East and the Arab nation.
Also, El Tayyeb is due to chair the ninth periodical meeting of the Muslim Council of Elders to discuss a number of issues that matter the Islamic nation in addition to reviewing efforts exerted by the elders council in 2016 and the council’s working plan in 2017
