At least six policemen were killed and nine more injured earlier Monday when a booby-trapped car detonated at a police checkpoint in Arish's Masaaed district.
Four civilians, including a paramedic, were injured during the terrorist attack as well.
The car blast was followed by shots and an RPG attack, erupting an exchange of fire, a security source told MENA.
The terrorists opened fire at the ambulance while on its way to move the victims, the sources added.
Security was beefed up in North Sinai's Arish following the attack and patrols have been deployed on the outskirts of the city to secure its entrances and exists.
