More than 320 people died and hundreds injured in clashes between Al-Razigat and Almaalia tribes east of the troubled Darfur region, western Sudan, UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Sunday.
Sudan Tribune news website quoted a weekly statement by OCHA as saying around 200 people from Almaalia tribe were killed and more than 120 people from Al-Razigat perished in clashes at Um-Rakoba area, east of Darfur, after attacks by Al-Razigat tribe on Almaalia which resulted in the injury of hundreds of people.
OCHA bulletin said the attacks resulted in complete destruction of buildings and forced thousands of people to flee to local areas in Adaila and Abo Karnka.
OCHA Spokesman Ali Al-Zatari said that tribal clashes in Darfur have become the main source of violence and armed clashes between government and armed movements.
The two tribes has been engaged in bloody clashes since 1965.
