Petra Kvitova reached a career-best No. 5 in the world and Vera Zvonareva inched closer to the No. 2 spot Monday in the updated WTA rankings. Kvitova moves up from sixth, edging by Li Na. The ranking doesn't reflect Li's first-round loss Sunday at the China Open. Zvonareva, who beat Kvitova in the semifinals of last week's Toray Pan Pacific Open, would have moved to No. 2 if she'd won the final in Tokyo. However, Agnieszka Radwanska claimed the title Saturday with a 6-3, 6-2 win. Radwanska moves from 13th to 12th with the victory. Zvonareva did improve her ranking one spot to third and is within 135 points of Maria Sharapova for the No. 2 ranking. Zvonareva is among eight Top 10 players in the draw at the China Open this week. Sharapova and No. 8-ranked Kim Clijsters, both injured, aren't in the field at Beijing. Defending champion Carolina Wozniacki, however, is. Next week marks the first anniversary of Wozniacki becoming the 20th woman to reach the No. 1 WTA ranking. She has 8,755 rankings points. Sharapova is second with 6,450 and Zvonareva comes in at 6,315. Victoria Azarenka, down a spot to fourth, has 6,055 points and Kvitova totals 5,895. Li, with 5,870 points, drops just behind Kvitova and Samantha Stosur (5,380) holds the No. 7 place. Clijsters moves from ninth to eighth with 4,501 points as Francesca Schiavone (4,380) slips down one to ninth. Marion Bartoli (4,325) completes the Top 10.
