The Filipino Golfers in the Middle East (FIGME) recently celebrated the 113th anniversary of the proclamation of the Philippines' independence. A strong field of 72 golfers battled for the coveted Independence Day crown at the Majlis course, playing off a ¾ individual stable ford handicap. David Hadley (handicap 8), an honorary member of FIGME, blasted the pack garnering 36 stableford points and achieving a humongous drive (longest drive award) on the Par five - 527 yards hole 10 with 200 yards left to the pin ending up with a gross birdie four. His score card highlighted a number of gross birdies and pars which accumulated to a best gross score of 78. Shot of the day The shot of the day was executed by FIGME Chairman Ramon Navea (11 handicap) through nearest to the pin on hole seven with a six iron 166 yards (against the wind) where the ball just dropped eight inches off the cup ending in a birdie putt. Platinum Division winners (0 to 12) saw Adam Hahn, Eric Matabang and Pat Morrow in the winning circle with 33 and 32 points apiece. Mohammad Idris Firdaus, Rey Lapa and Werner Rooseboom dominated the Gold Division winners (13-19) garnering scores of 31 and 29 points, respectively. The Silver Division (20 to 26) saw a field of promising improved golfers headed by Ebrahim Baggash, Jay Martin and Derek Bristol.
