Speaking exclusively to Arabstoday, Palestine’s Minister for National Economy Jawad Al-Naji claimed there was a “significant shortage” in resources being directed to support small businesses. “Small enterprise sector constitutes 95 percent of our economy,” the Minister said. “There is a need to review and amend any laws that do not support the small business sector in order to encourage young people to fulfil their role in the development of Palestine.” Al-Naji claimed that most laws in Palestine do not take into account this vital sector, alleging that if they were changed, the state would not be facing a financial crisis. "A number of existing laws need to be reviewed and amended and it is likely that new laws will be issued to support the small sector,” he said, stressing that a bolstered judiciary would be required to “swiftly address the problems.”
