Adel bin Ahmad Al-Jubeir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, stressed that the 36th session of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Supreme Council represents a chance to review and assess the GCC march after 35 years of its establishment.
In a joint press conference with GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zaynai, Al-Jubeir stressed that the GCC leaders are keen to enhance the concept of real cooperation in all political, economic, social, military, security and other fields of joint cooperation.
Al-Jubeir highlighted what have been discussed and approved regarding the comprehensive vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to the GCC leaders which stressed the need to redouble efforts to improve the performance of the council's devices to achieve the aspirations of our peoples and to complete the important steps initiated within framework of the joint cooperation.
'During the summit, the GCC leaders discussed in depth all regional issues and challenges within framework of protection of the GCC states of their impact,' Al-Jubeir added as quoted by Saudi Press Agency.
He stressed that the GCC leaders have dealt with these issues in accordance with the unified political vision towards regional conflicts in order to restore security and stability in the region.
For his part, GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani thanked the GCC leaders for their keenness to enhance the GCC march in all fields.
He added that the GCC leaders issued a number of decisions aiming to enhance the joint cooperation and integration among the GCC states.
Regarding the Syrian file, Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir, Minister of Foreign Affairs, talked about the Syrian Opposition Conference being held in Riyadh, stressing the Kingdom's commitment in supporting the legitimate rights of the Syrian people.
He added that the conference aims to unification of the Syrian opposition to strengthen its position in order to enter into any negotiation for a peaceful solution based on principles of 'Geneva1'.
Regarding Qatar's host of World Cup 2022, Al-Jubeir and Al-Zayani stressed that the final communiqué of the 36th GCC supreme council was clear through supporting this occasion, pointing out to transparency of the State of Qatar in its efforts to host the World Cup 2022.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the GCC states are looking forward to establish better relations with Iran, as an Islamic state and a neighbour with the history and civilisation, pointing out the firm position of GCC member states regarding the GCC refusal of the negative role played by Iran in the region and its interventions in the internal affairs of countries in the region, whether in Syria, Iraq, or Yemen, as well as its support for terrorism.
'These practices do not contribute to building positive relationships,' Al-Jubeir added, hoping to establish relations in the future based on good-neighbourly relations and non-interference in the affairs of others.
Al-Jubeir hoped Iran would change its policies in order to have an important part leading to positive roles in this region.
