Jenny Simpson won the Fifth Avenue Mile road race, edging Sally Kipyego and Hannah England less than a month after she shocked the field to win the 1,500m world title in South Korea. She on Saturday triumphed on New York City's famous avenue in 4min 22.3sec, as Kipyego and England were both timed in 4:22.6.American Bernard Lagat, who earned silver in the 5,000m at the World championships, won the men's race in 3:50.5. Defending Fifth Avenue Mile champion Amine Laalou of Morocco was second, 1.2 seconds back.Simpson became the first American woman since Mary Decker in 1983 to win the 1,500m world crown with her stunning victory at the athletics World Championships at Daegu, South Korea, on September 1.Britain's England was runner-up to Simpson at Daegu, where Kenya's Kipyego took silver in the 10,000m.
