President of Qatar Olympic Committee HE Sheikh Joaan in Hamad Al-Thani crowned UK's Scott Brash as the champion of Al Shaqab International Equestrian Competition (CHI Al Shaqab 2017), which ended Saturday.
President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Alistair Routledge handed the trophies to winners of second and third place in the competition. Scott Brash won the title after finishing the CSI 5* class in 54.21 seconds, while Turkey's Omer Karaevli ranked second and Spain's Pilar Lucrecia Cordon third.
In the Dressage competition, Germany's Isabell Werth won the title of with her horse Don Johnson after scoring 81.275 percent, while Denmark's Cathrine Dufour and Anna Kasprzak ranked second and third respectively.
The successful organization of CHI Al Shaqab 2017 proves ability of Al Shaqab, Member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF), in hosting and organizing sports events at an international level.
Executive Director of Al Shaqab Khalifa Al Attiyah said that the CHI Al Shaqab was the best edition of the tournament, as riders and horses have shown worthiness of their international status. The competition has attracted riders as well as equestrian enthusiasts from all over the world, he added.
"We are very proud that we contribute to the preservation of inherent equestrian heritage in Qatar, through the organization of international Shaqab Equestrian Championship," he said.
For his part, President and General Manager of ExxonMobil Qatar Alistair Routledge extended thanks to HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, whose efforts put CHI Al Shaqab among the prestigious equestrian events in the world.
He also thanked the work team headed by Executive Director of Al Shaqab Khalifa Al Attiyah, for their hard work and responsibility to manage the tournament with effectiveness and professionalism.
The Director of CHI Al Shaqab Omar LA Manai said that the fifth edition of the tournament has exceeded all expectations, especially with the international-level performances and given by the riders through the three days of the competition. The Tournament topped the list of international events in the equestrian world, during the past five years, and managed to attract equestrian enthusiasts from all over the world, he added.
