Daniel Sturridge scored a brace as Liverpool defeated Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield on Tuesday to seal a place in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.
Sturridge turned in a loose ball inside the area to break the deadlock in the ninth minute before converting a one-on-one opportunity in the second half to double both his and Liverpool's tally.
His second brace in this season's competition - he also scored twice in a 5-0 victory at Burton Albion in the second round - settled an all-Premier League affair that pitted the League Cup's last two losing finalists.
Vincent Janssen converted a 76th-minute penalty to halve the deficit but Tottenham's unbeaten run in all competitions came to an end at eight games.
