Morocco’s Soufiane El Bekkali has won the silver medal in the 3000 meters steeplechase at the IAAF London 2017 World Championship on Tuesday night.
The 21-year-old Moroccan was among the among few promising athletes Morocco relies on to win a medal. This is Bekkali’s first major medal.
El Bekkali came behind Kenyan Conseslus Kipruto who succeeded in maintaining his country’s dominance over the 3,000 meters steeplechase.
Bekkali came close to breaking Kenya’s dominance as he stayed with the group throughout the race to win his silver medal.
This is the 29th medal that Morocco has won since its first participation in the IAAF World Championships.
