The 2000 African Footballer of the Year disapproves of the purported choice of former France coach as the Indomitable Lions' new shepherd. With talks and rumours mounting concerning the possible hiring of former France coach Raymond Domenech to succeed Javier Clemente as Cameroon coach, the team’s legendary former striker Patrick Mboma has sounded a warning to the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) that “another grave error” was about to be made in the quest for a solution to the “ailment” of the central African nation’s football. The 40-year-old former Parma and PSG forward questioned the sportsmanship and character of the Frenchman, noting that the anti-French sentiment currently floating across Cameroon was a foreseeable hindrance to Domenech if given the job.“His manner of communicating is ridiculous and it could tarnish the good image of Cameroon,” Mboma told France-based radio RMC on Wednesday.“The Indomitable Lion is a label and I’m afraid the guy could defile it. As a former footballer, I think and feel Domenech is not competent enough and his mentality will not match that of Cameroonians. Local fans now have that anti-French sentiment since Paul Le Guen failed the team in South Africa during the 2010 World Cup.”Spanish-born Clemente took over the Lions last year with the chief objective of winning the 2012 African Cup of Nations, which Cameroon might not even qualify for, depending on the final qualifying matchday in October.
