Kenya stands at the risk of not taking part at the 2017 Africa Para Sitting Volleyball World Cup Qualifiers if the government does not make available 280,000 U.S. dollars to prepare the teams for participation.
The event, scheduled for May 15-22 in Nairobi, will be used to select the men's and women's teams that will participate at the Sitting Volleyball to be held in July next year at The Hague, Netherlands.
"We have never taken part at the Sitting Volleyball World Cup despite Kenya having qualified for the event twice in the past. It is our hope that this time round, the government will facilitate our participation," Polycarp Mboya, the President of the Kenya Sitting Volleyball said on Wednesday.
Mboya said that the money is intended for accommodation, players' allowances, hiring of venue and other expenses for the 24-member team in each category which will be whittled down to 12 players each.
Sitting volleyball is played by athletes with physical disability and encompasses all age groups and both genders.
Fifteen countries are expected to compete at the qualifiers which will be used to select the top two teams in the men's and women's categories for the global event.
