Egypt marked their return to the African Cup of Nations with a goalless draw against Mali in Group D of the tournament.
Seven-time winners Egypt who returned to the competition after missing the last three editions had the first chance on five minutes when Marwan Mohsen had a shot saved by Malian goalkeeper Oumar Sissoko.
Arsenal's Mohamed Elneny also wasted two first-half chances for Egypt, while Osmane Coulibaly headed over from close range for Mali late r in the game.
Egypt's goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary made history when he replaced the injured Ahmed El-Shenawy as he became the oldest player to take the pitch at an Africa Cup of Nations match.
The draw is the fifth in eight matches played so far in the tournament.
Ghana defeated Uganda 1-0 today earlier to top the group. Egypt face Uganda next while Mali are Ghana's next opponents, with both games taking place on Saturday.
