Vera Dushevina ousted top-seeded Francesca Schiavone in first-round play Tuesday at the Hansol Korea Open tennis tournament in Seoul. Dushevina improved to 3-1 lifetime against Schiavone, ranked No. 8 in the world, with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 win. Dushevina won nearly 60 percent of the points on serve despite losing all four of the break points she faced. However, she had six breaks of her own. Schiavone hurt herself with 14 double faults and landing just 27 percent of her first serves. Galina Voskoboeva defeated No. 8-seeded Ekaterina Makarova 6-4, 6-4. Voskoboeva posted four breaks in Makarova's 10 service games. No. 2-seeded Marion Bartoli was among five seeded players who won matches Tuesday. Bartoli had seven breaks in a 6-3 6-2 win over Nuria Llagostera Vives. Third-seeded Julia Goerges sailed through a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Yurika Sema in less than an hour and No. 5-seeded Polona Hercog needed just 45 minutes to finish a 6-0, 6-2 rout of Zuzana Kucova. Also, sixth-seeded Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez defeated Irina Falconi 6-3, 6-3; and No. 7-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu beat Akgul Amanmuradova 6-1, 6-3. Other first-round results saw Iveta Benesova topping Anastasiya Yakimova 6-3, 6-3; Yaroslava Shvedova defeating Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-2, 6-0; Carla Suarez Navarro getting by Eva Birnerova 6-4, 6-4; Kristyna Pliskova beating Nicole Rottmann 6-1, 7-5; Eleni Daniilidou surviving a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 match with Kim So-jung; and Vania King eliminating Kimiko Date-Krumm 6-2, 6-2.
