Sheikh Tariq bin Faisel Al Qasimi has won the silver medal at the European Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship, heavyweight black belt division, adding a new achievement to the UAE's sporting accolades.
The three-day tournament was organised in Lisbon, Portugal, under the supervision of the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation.
Jiu-Jitsu experts have attributed the series of wins accomplished by the UAE squad in this tournament including Al Qasimi's impressive win in heavyweight division, to the evolution of this martial art in the country and the great support from leaders and the UAE Jiu Jitsu federation makers in the sports sector.
Speaking on this occasion, Sheikh Al Qasimi said, "Winning the silver medal is both an individual triumph and a national achievement which mirrors the role played by the UAE in supporting sports to attain international excellence, in addition to the considerable support by His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, whom I am pleased to dedicate this achievement to in recognition of his limitless backing for this sport which continues to raise the flag of the UAE high at international sporting events."
