The Syrian national badminton team won three gold medals and other three silver medals on the final day of Syria's International Badminton Championship held at al-Faiha Sports City in Damascus. 87 players from 13 Arab and foreign countries took part in the Championship which lasted for four days. In men's and women's doubles tournament, Syrian players Ammar Awad and Sanaa Mahmoud won the first place and the first gold medal over Jordanian counterparts 2-0. The second gold medal was earned in women's doubles tournament by Sanaa Mahmoud and Hadil Kareem, winning 2-0 in the final game over the Syrian doubles Taghrid Jalaa and Sara Hajjar who won a silver medal. The Syrian Mohammad Sawass, together with the Turkish Murad Sin, won the third gold medal in men's doubles tournament against the Syrian doubles of Ammar Awad and Mohammad Saleh 2-1. Awad and Saleh won the silver medal. The third silder medal went to Sanaa Mahmoud in women's singles tournament after losing the final game to Portuguese player Telma Santos who came in the first place. In men's singles tournament, the Portuguese Pedro Martinez won a gold medal beating Iranian player Kaveh Mehrabi 2-0. This is the first time in the history of the Championship that Syria wins 3 gold medals. In the first edition, it won only two bronze medals and in the second it won a silver medal. Syria's International Badminton Championship is qualified for the London 2012 Olympic.
