The Syrian national athletes mission started competition in the 2nd Asian Youth Games held in the city of Nanjing in China. The teams of handball, judo, weightlifting and table tennis started their first round of the competition, with the Syrian table tennis player Suzan Mohammad qualifying to the second round after winning over Philippines. In weightlifting competition, athlete Hussein al-Sheikh came fifth, out of 20 players in his group, in the clean-and-jerk competition, while Ahmad Mohammad came third in an 11-players group and Mohammad Mohammad came fifth in a group that comprises 11 other athletes.
