Syria has won two new medals in the second West Asian Junior Athletics Championship currently held in the Jordanian capital Amman . Athlete Esraa Halahel gained the gold medal in the javelin competition while athlete Nour Nasser ranked second and gained the silver medal in the hammer throw competition. Syria's team to the championship gained five medals. Earlier, athlete Alaa Laila earned the silver medal in the 400 m dash, while the bronze medal in the high jump competition went to athlete Areej Hassan. Athlete Aya Abbas earned Wednesday Syria's first gold medal in the Championship by winning the title of the 5000 m race walking and was awarded the gold medal. Teams representing Syria, Palestine, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq and Jordan are participating in the Championship. The Syrian team ranked fifth in the first West Asian Junior Athletics Championship, held in Lebanon in 2011, with 3 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. Source: SANA
