Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa will lead the Bahrain Triathlon Team in the Dubai International Triathlon Championship on Friday in Dubai.
The event is being organised by Dubai Sports Council and Race M.E. Events.
Shaikh Nasser and the Bahraini team members will compete in the race, which will see more than 1,000 participants from 63 different countries. The field will be led by 12 professionals, including long-distance racing champion Chris Maka McCormack.
The triathlon's three stages include: a 1.9-kilometre swim at the Atlantis Resort, followed by 90km cycle starting from Palm Island passing through Hessa Street and reaching the Sports City, and ending with a 21.1km run at Palm Island.
This tournament is the first of its kind to be held in Dubai, and it hopes to achieve great success with a large number of athletes taking part.
Meanwhile, Shaikh Nasser led the Bahraini team in strong training sessions in Bahrain before heading to Dubai. Shaikh Nasser considers the Dubai International Triathlon Championship an important part of their preparations for the upcoming "Challenge Bahrain", which is set to take place on December 6.
Shaikh Nasser assured that the Dubai race is a great opportunity to raise the readiness of the team to compete in the Bahrain event, where he hopes the nationals can achieve positive results.
He added that the Dubai race is considered one of the valuable races in which all the participants are keen to achieve advanced positions in the race, especially that most of them are in high physical condition.
Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad said that the Dubai race will not be easy for everyone with the presence of this big number of participants, who will each aim to achieve an advanced position. He pointed out that his team will strive with all their strength to achieve a new level after their recent success in the Philippines.
He said that the Bahrain team participating in such a big event is a great asset and unique experience for the team, which will reflect positively in the team's upcoming competitions.
