President of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah Wednesday lauded the UN resolution that supports the independence and autonomy of sport, as well as the mission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in leading the Olympic Movement.
Addressing the 65th regular session of ANOC's executive office here in the presence of IOC President Thomas Bach, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad, from Kuwait, said that the resolution was made after talks between Bach and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon were held.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad added that this move will serve the Olympic movement, international sport and national Olympic committees as well.
He noted that the UN confidence of a key role for the Olympic movement in strengthening spreading principles of peace, friendship and development contributed to taking this resolution.
Concerning the meeting of ANOC's executive office, Sheikh Ahmad stressed that the ANOC continues on developing and carrying out a new vision of work that helps it play a pivotal and important role in this regard.
He pointed out that ANOC managed to make a dynamism in the Olympic movement through reactivating its role, saying this move prompted many partners in the Olympic movement to attend the meeting of ANOC.
Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad thanked Bach for his efforts and support to develop ANOC and the National Olympic Committees.
For his part, Bach stressed the importance of the UN resolution that will be of big support to the efforts of the Olympic movement in implementing all terms of the Olympic Charter to serve sport across the globe.
The IOC president said that the UN resolution would help the IOC to carry out its policy toward change and development, especially after the success of the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.
Bach commended the ANOC's developments since Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad became its president in 2012.
