Sebastiao Lazaroni has been sacked as coach of Qatar following the nation's group stage elimination at the Arab Games. Brazilian Lazaroni, who coached his native country at the 1990 FIFA World Cup™ in Italy, was appointed in August and has guided the Gulf side to the brink of the fourth round of Asian qualifying for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™. But that was not enough to appease Qatar Football Association (QFA) officials disappointed by their failure to advance in the Arab Games they are hosting. A QFA statement said Lazaroni had been sacked after "a series of weak performances". They drew both of their Arab Games Group A fixtures: 2-2 with Bahrain and 0-0 with Iraq. Lazaroni succeeded Milovan Rajevac, who was dismissed after the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ hosts could only beat Vietnam 4-2 over two legs.
