The Kuwaiti national football team snatched their first three points in the 22nd Gulf Cup through a hard-won victory against the Iraqi team 1-0 in their Group B encounter at Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium here Friday evening.
The only goal of the game was scored by Fahad Al-Enzi in the last minute from a wonderful pass by Bader Al-Muttawa.
Al-Azraq (the Blue) team were able to put the Iraqi team on the defensive from the very beginning of the game thanks to the energetic Al-Enzi, Al-Muttawa and Ali Maqsid.
The win broke a chain of draws of other Group B teams.
Commenting the performance of the team, the Head Coach Jorvan Vieira said in press remarks that the game wasn't easy at all and the Iraqi team made a strong comeback in the last 20 minutes.
"Al-Azraq missed several scoring chances in the first halftime but were able to minimize their mistakes in the second half," he said.
Al-Azraq are set to the UAE on Monday in a crucial qualifier to the semi-final of the tourney.
The UAE team tied 0-0 with Oman in their first encounter at the same stadium.
