Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour on Wednesday checked the ongoing preparations, prior to Jordan hosting the 2016 FIFA under-17 Women’s World Cup.
Chairing a meeting at the Higher Council for Youth among those departments involved in hosting the under-17 Women’s World Cup, Ensour noted that this is a world-class event, adding that His Majesty King Abdullah II maintains high expectations for the hosting of this major sports event.
He also stressed the need for coordinating the efforts of all agencies and departments to ensure the success of this important sports event, which will reflect positively on Jordan and its people.
Jordan, Ensour said, succeeded on many occasions in hosting international events and meetings, and is capable of continuing such successes.
"We want to prove that there is a secure and stable Arab country that is able to host females from all over the world," he added, noting that the event will provide an opportunity to promote tourism, trade and investments.
On Prince Ali's intention to stand for the FIFA presidency, Ensour said that His Majesty's letter to Prince Ali, in which he voiced support for the prince, is a directive to the government and its agencies, particularly Jordanian ambassadors, to play their role in supporting the prince's candidacy.
Meanwhile, the President of the Higher Council for Youth, Sami Majali, said all sports facilities and preparations for hosting the event would be completed by the end of the year, some nine months before the start of the event.
