The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has announced its sponsorship of the International Junior Table Tennis Championship, to be held in Bahrain’s Isa Town Sports Complex from February 23 to 28.
The sponsorship comes as part of the Company’s eagerness to provide all aspects of financial and moral support to Bahrain’s sports sector in Bahrain and in continuing its desire to support Bahraini youth to excel in sports and games both within and outside the country.
In a statement, GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery said the Company, under the guidance of its chairman, H.E Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, is keen to provide all possible services to assist in the advancement of society and improve Bahrain in all spheres.
He said considerable efforts are directed at Bahrain’s youth and several initiatives have been directed towards developing culture and sports, given their importance in creating a positive impact on Bahraini youth.
He said the GPIC support for sporting clubs and associations primarily aim to help them in organizing and holding competitions that allow young people an opportunity to participate, show off and improve their skills. He said Bahrain is now competent to hold world class sporting events and competitions.
He said top class facilities for table tennis already exist in Bahrain and the GPIC has always assisted in providing youngsters with professional coaches and stadiums that help players to develop and hone their skills. He said the General Organisation for Youth and Sport also makes a lot of efforts to attract tournaments and competitions to Bahrain and to ensure their success.
Dr. Jawahery said the Company believes in the importance of partnership, which aims primarily to elevate the standard of sport in Bahrain. He said the GPIC has a distinct relationship with the sports sector and is working to provide a good environment for fruitful cooperation between sports clubs and associations with private sector companies.
Bahrain Table Tennis Federation President and member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports H.E Shaikha Hayat Bint Abdulaziz Al Khalifa thanked the GPIC for its initiative in sponsoring the event and expressed gratitude towards H.E Shaikh Isa, Dr. Jawahery, the Board of Directors and the Management. She said this support would contribute to the success of the event and show Bahrain in very good light all over the world. It would also raise the stature of Bahrain’s young men and women in the sporting field.
H.E Shaikha Hayat, who is also a member of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, said the championship is held at this time of the year on an annual basis, thanks to the vision and directions of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King and head of the Supreme Council for Youth as well as the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
H.E Shaikha Hayat said the event attracts participation from across the Arab world and beyond and given them an opportunity to interact with one another thus raising their skill level and excelling in the sport.
