The international football association FIFA has threatened to freeze football activity in Egypt if it is proven that the Egyptian government was responsible for excluding Hany Abu Rida from the elections for its chairmanship, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm online. “We received a letter from our headquarters ordering us to freeze activity for a year if this claim turns out to be true,” said Egyptian Football Association spokesperson Azmi Megahed. However, a FIFA source said no such letter was received, while another at the Ministry of Sports said it was the association that ruled out Abu Rida. Abu Rida was ruled out of the election, having already served two terms as a member of the association, which is the maximum allowed by the laws and regulations.
